Sweet tea bbq sauce
Last Thursday i practice my sweet tea bbq sauce for the @sanmateocountyfair culinary arts cooking with tea contest the booklet says sweet and savory and I've gone savory on this one, won 4th place a couple of years back in the bbq sauce contest and now and taking homemade bbq sauce to a whole new level with brewed blood orange tea from our friends at @cattledogcoffeeroasters and i will be making blueberry lemon jam later this week for the berry fairy tales jam contest and working on recipes for @hellmannsmayonnaise and @foodnetwork chopped so stay tuned
Sweet tea bbq sauce for chicken
1/2 cup brewed @cattledogcoffeeroasters blood orange tea**see note
1 cup hellmanns ketchup
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup rice vinegar
1/2 onion chopped
1/2 cup thai sweet chili sauce
2 cloves garlic grated
2 tbl soy sauce
2 tsp ground cumin, eyeball it
2 tsp chili powder, eyeball it
Method
Stir all ingredients in a small saucepan bring it to a simmer then reduce heat to low until flavor melds 40 minutes stirring occasionally stirring the sauce. Cool to room temperature and then store in airtight container up to 2 weeks
**steep 1/2 cup water by making your own DIY teabags take a couple pieces of cheese cloth long enough to make 2 layers cut into 4 strips enough to secure and tie the tea bag. Add 1 teaspoon ful of bulk tea from @cattledogcoffeeroasters and don't over full and fold over and secure with a knot and place in hot water off heat and cover with lid or foil and allow to steep for 15 minutes or until darkened and strain tea bag you just made and discard it and its so much cheaper that was **
