Homemade Applesauce

ok fans today i decided to use up the apples by making applesauce, great way to make with your children. the recipe is from doctor oz magazine i think i was going to make apple butter but next time will use the variation. i did not change anything except added 1/2 cup light brown sugar to taste and why it gives a great flavor. so i am going to freeze these jars in the freezer. i got the freezer jars at target. the county fair mailed me a coupon for 5 bucks off so i got basically 1 3 pk freezer jars for free. i will be adding recipes using applesauce in the upcoming season ahead. so get cookin fans!

Applesauce
from the Dr Oz Good life magazine

12 gala apples  peeled, cored cut into 1 inch chunk
juice of 1 lemon about 2 tablespoons
3 cinnamon sticks
1/2 cup brown sugar

method
combine all ingredients and 1/3 cup water except brown sugar in a large pot cook covered over medium heat until soften about 30 minutes. stirring occasionally it really cooks fast so keep an eye on it. mash mixture with a potato masher into a chunky puree then add brown sugar cook uncovered over medium heat stirring frequently until thickened 10 more minutes discard cinnamon sticks and puree with a blender to desired smoothness and transfer into ball freezer jars it will keep up to a week in a fridge or up to 6 months in the freezer

tip: let the applesauce cool uncovered before storing for at least 1 hour it needs time to cool properly or it wont taste good!
